The Hampton Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. evolved from "women of vision who dared to venture." Beta Kappa, the original chapter, was chartered October 26, 1937 under the leadership of Marion Palmer Capps and Ethel Pannell. The first President of Beta Kappa was Dorothy Role
In 1945, the chapter was renamed Gamma Iota Sigma. The six years of Gamma Iota Sigma were highlighted by the emergence of new ideas, sisterhood, and public service projects such as an annual Job Opportunity Clinic, the Jabberwock, and awarding high school scholarships.
Delta Iota Sigma, a new chapter was chartered on October 27, 1951 with the separation of Hampton and Newport News members.
In 1956, Delta Iota Sigma became the Hampton Alumnae Chapter, its present name.
